Founder, The College Admissions Academy
Dr. Janice Pilgreen has served as a tutor and mentor in the College Admissions Academy since 2020. Supporting high school and community college students in writing well-crafted responses to meet university admissions expectations has been a fulfilling extension of her lifetime work in the field of education.
Overall, at least 97% of the students enrolled in the Academy with Dr. Pilgreen were accepted to at least one of the University of California schools—and many were granted multiple offers from the nine campuses. Applicants to private and other public colleges were also admitted to their preferred institutions at a high rate.
Dr. Pilgreen’s background makes her uniquely qualified for her role in the Academy. Having served for 22 years in the Glendale Unified School District as an English teacher at the secondary level, she then chaired the Reading Specialist Credential Program at the University of La Verne where she worked with already-credentialed teachers earning higher (M.Ed.) degrees in literacy development to advance their skills.
Dr. Pilgreen received her B.A. in English and Reading Specialist Credential and Master’s Degree from UCLA. She earned her Ph.D. from USC, with a specialization in Language, Learning, and Literacy. She has consulted with over 100 school districts and published numerous articles and books on reading and writing strategies.
